  • 1 garlic clove, crushed

  • 1 large can tomato paste

  • 1/4 cup Watts Sauce (or 1/2 cup for a spicier flavor)

Preparation Steps

Step 1: Prepare the Seasonings

Start by mixing the Chili Seasoning and Taco Seasoning as per the cookbook instructions. Store the blend in an airtight container. This versatile mixture can be used in other dishes, enhancing their flavor as well.

Step 2: Cook the Beef

Heat olive oil in a medium pot over medium heat. Add 3 lbs of ground beef and cook for about 20 to 25 minutes until it is browned. After that, drain any excess grease. Stir in the taco seasoning, onion, bell pepper, and garlic, cooking until the onions turn transparent, which takes about 5 minutes.

Step 3: Add the Beer

Next, pour in the can of beer and allow the mixture to boil. This step enriches the flavor profile of the chili, offering a subtle depth that distinguishes it from other recipes.

Step 4: Combine Remaining Ingredients

Once the beer has boiled, add the kidney beans, chili beans (with their juice), crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and 1/3 cup of your seasoning mix. Stir well and bring the pot back to a boil, ensuring all flavors meld together.

Step 5: Simmer the Chili

After reaching a boil, lower the heat and let the chili simmer for 30 to 45 minutes. Stir frequently to avoid sticking. If you like it spicy, add more chili seasoning and Watts Sauce as needed. This simmering step allows the flavors to enhance, making each bite more delicious.

Step 6: Serve or Store

When ready, serve the chili hot or divide it into multiple containers for freezing. This recipe makes about 10 servings, perfect for meal prepping or sharing with friends.

Tips for the Perfect Chili

  • Customize Your Spice Level: Want more heat? Add crushed red pepper, cayenne, or habanero peppers. Start with small amounts and adjust according to your taste.

  • Experiment with Beans: While kidney and chili beans are delicious, consider using black or pinto beans for a new twist.

  • Garnish for Extra Flavor: Enhance your chili by topping it with fresh herbs, shredded cheese, or a dollop of sour cream. This adds both flavor and visual appeal.

  • Pairing Suggestions: Enjoy your chili with cornbread, tortilla chips, or on a bed of rice. Research shows that dishes like cornbread can enhance the overall meal experience, providing additional warmth and comfort.
